Artist Statement & Biography

“My paintings are a visual expression and interpretation of what I consider delightful, beautiful and inviting! My subject matter varies as my inspirations reveal themselves.

Because of it’s colour, richness, flexibility and texture, oil paint is my medium of choice. When I paint, my intention is to compose an image with colour, emotion and a pleasant mood that invites the viewer to be a part of the work and want to be there.”

Margery was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with her Bachelor of Fines Arts degree and later earned her Education degree. She worked as a high school teacher for many years, while never losing her love to create and express herself through her art. She took an early retirement and relocated to Vancouver Island where she now works as a full-time painter.  Margery is now a Faculty Director for the MAC School for Creative Arts.

Margery is a representational oil painter, inspired by nature, light and reflection and she has always had a love for the art of the French Impressionists. Margery is an Active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. She is a resident artist at the MAC –  McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville. Her work is on display in galleries at both of these locations as well as at The Gallery at Qualicum Art Supply in Qualicum Beach.
