June Issue Oceanside Arts Magazine

This is the 6th issue of the new Oceanside Arts Magazine. Oceanside Arts Magazine is a monthly online publication of the Oceanside Community Arts Council (OCAC), based in British Columbia, Canada. The magazine highlights artists, exhibitions, and creative initiatives from across the Oceanside region (Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Nanoose Bay) and beyond.

In this new issue, we begin with photographer Mario Cerroni and painter Grant Leier, two artists whose work reflects distinctly different creative approaches. Cerroni explores landscape, memory, and spirituality through analogue and pinhole photography, while Leier's vibrant paintings blend imagination, symbolism, and contemporary visual storytelling.

We are also pleased to introduce Painter's Palate, an exciting new arts and culture festival taking shape at the historic Painter's Lodge in Campbell River. Bringing together visual art, live music, wine, craft beer, artisan vendors, and community engagement, the festival aims to establish a vibrant new creative gathering place on Vancouver Island.

Readers will also discover conversations with artists Sylvie Peltier, Anouk Jonker, and Terri Bowen, each sharing insights into their creative journeys, artistic influences, and evolving practices. These interviews continue our ongoing Artists in Their Own Words series, which remains at the heart of Oceanside Arts Magazine.

This issue also marks the arrival of a new contributor, Kerishma Singh, whose feature explores the architecture, history, and legacy of the Hudson's Bay Company building. Her article examines the cultural significance of one of Canada's most recognizable institutions and its enduring place in our collective story.

Music enthusiasts will enjoy another thoughtful contribution from columnist Dave Klinger. In this issue, Dave sits down with James McRae to discuss his musical journey, the instruments he plays, the bands he performs with, and the experiences that have shaped a lifetime devoted to music.

We also feature a conversation with Michael Korcek of ArtLifting, exploring how art can create opportunity, foster visibility, and generate meaningful social impact while helping artists connect with new audiences and possibilities.

Alongside these feature stories, readers will find community arts updates, upcoming exhibitions and events, artist opportunities, festival announcements, and stories that celebrate the richness and diversity of the arts community across our region and beyond.

As always, we extend our sincere thanks to the artists, writers, photographers, contributors, volunteers, advertisers, and readers whose support and participation make Oceanside Arts Magazine possible. We hope you enjoy this issue and discover something within its pages that inspires, informs, or sparks your own creative journey.
