May Issue Oceanside Arts

May Issue | Oceanside Arts Magazine

Oceanside Arts Magazine is the monthly online publication of the Oceanside Community Arts Council (OCAC), based in Parksville, British Columbia, Canada. The magazine celebrates artists, exhibitions, music, and creative initiatives from across the Oceanside region and beyond.

This May issue brings together a diverse collection of artists, stories, and creative perspectives that reflect the richness of the arts community, both local and far-reaching.

We begin with Allan Thomas, whose work explores the quiet relationship between people and the urban spaces they inhabit, uncovering beauty in the often-overlooked streets, storefronts, and structures of everyday life.

From there, we feature Dominique Walker, a Canadian painter whose luminous oil paintings capture the atmosphere and spirit of the West Coast through expressive figurative and landscape works.

Our community spotlight continues with Mindfulness in May, an annual youth arts exhibition celebrating the creativity, insight, and imagination of emerging young artists throughout the region.

We also revisit the roots of DeCosmos Fine Arts, tracing the collective’s beginnings in the 1960s through to its enduring presence in the local arts community today.

Music takes centre stage with Tom Neville, a versatile and accomplished musician whose work spans folk, Celtic, jazz, and blues, reflecting a lifetime devoted to performance, collaboration, and storytelling through song.

Further afield, we journey east to New Brunswick, exploring a province shaped by dramatic natural beauty, from dense forests and waterfalls to the extraordinary tides of the Bay of Fundy.

Finally, we return home to McMillan Arts Centre (The MAC), a vibrant cultural hub in Parksville that continues to support, nurture, and showcase creative voices within the Oceanside community.

Together, these stories offer a snapshot of creativity in motion: rooted in place, shaped by experience, and shared through many artistic forms.
