On behalf of the McMillan Arts Centre and the Oceanside Community Arts Council, we are hoping to raise funds to help a well known local artist, Nelson Shaw.

Nelson Shaw has been a member of the arts community for over 25 years. Formally trained as a sculptor, Nelson and his Blue Heron Steel Studio are a fixture in the local arts scene - his well known Blue Heron sculptures have been shipped around the world. Nelson has worked with other local artists to produce significant installation exhibits at the MAC, notably Soft Shore, Tale of One Urban Creek, and this summer's exhibit, Xpey', for the love of our Wetlands. He is always willing to help with projects at the McMillan Arts Centre, and we are proud to also feature his work in our Gift Shop.
Nelson has been having significant health issues over the past few years, and in the last few months has had to undergo surgeries and extended stays in the hospital. His situation at the moment is dire, and we are hoping to raise funds to help Nelson with his medical costs, and rent of his Studio, living expenses, until he is recovered enough to return to work. Nelson is an important member of our community, and we are hoping that Oceanside will respond and donate generously to this fundraiser.
