Island Fire 5 x 7 inch

Island Fire

Island Fire was inspired by a solo trip to Jamaica during a time when I was navigating a major life decision — whether to stay where I was or move on.

I spent a week on Seven Mile Beach, keeping things simple. No tours, no excursions — just the beach, day and night. Each evening brought its own energy, but one night in particular stayed with me.

There was a bonfire on the beach — the kind of moment that feels almost unreal. The combination of the ocean at night, the warmth of the fire, the music, and the energy of the people created something unforgettable. Reggae played, people danced, and the movement and colours came together in a way that felt alive and full of possibility.

This piece captures that feeling — not just one moment, but the energy of the entire experience.

The glowing, layered sun reflects the intensity and warmth of the fire, while the ocean and palm tree ground the scene in stillness and balance. Each dot is placed by hand, building texture, movement, and depth throughout the painting.

Among the images accompanying this artwork are photographs from my time in Jamaica — moments that helped inspire the colours, movement, and feeling within the piece.

Island Fire is a reflection of how travel can open us to new experiences and possibilities, especially during times of change. Sometimes, stepping away from everyday life gives us the space to feel, reflect, and imagine what might come next.
