Biography

Meiling Lorenz was born and raised in Taiwan. This beautiful island -Formosa – nurtured her with the rich and multicultural heritage that Meiling holds great gratitude to. Both her family and country provided every possible resources and opportunities to make the individual who she is now. In addition to Meiling’s fundamental calligraphy classes in school, the influence of the outstanding calligraphy skills of her grandfather laid a firm foundation for her admiration and interest in brushwork and art. She received her first and only Chinese painting training from a community painting class while attending college in Taiwan. She furthered and broadened her horizon into western art and explored this wonderland in the many following years, particularly during her study, work, and extensive travel in Asia, Europe and northern America between 1987 and 1997. Immigrating to Canada with her family in 1997, Meiling furthered her academic education in Canada and received a Visual Art diploma from Vancouver Island University in 2017. She was awarded the Arts Club Award for Visual Arts 1st Year Drawing Award in 2007 and Art Endowment Award Willie Brown Memorial Sculpture Award in 2008 during her study at VIU. Currently, Meiling is a full-time artist concentrating on Chinese brush painting and endeavour to develop a personal style incorporating western and oriental watercolour skills. It is her honour to share with you the beauty of nature through her ink and water colour brush paintings.
