Irish Poet Laureate W. B. Yeats
This course will examine the works of Irish poet W. B. Yeats, from his late-19th-century works to his more modern productions of the 1920s and 1930s. We will begin by sketching the outline of Yeats's life, briefly considering his relation to the culture and politics of Ireland. Then we will proceed to read and discuss several of his poems, grouped roughly by stages of his career. Additional context to be provided by looking at Yeat's interest in the occult, his "system" of gyres, and his late Steinach procedure.
Four classes: Monday 8 April to Monday 29 April, 2:00pm – fee $40.
Course fees are by course and payable at the door at the first class.
