Picasso grew up in Madrid, where he heard the guitar in the streets and cafes from a very early age. His exploration of the guitar in his art took him from the traditional to the avant-garde. His exploration into cubism was, in part because of the guitar, a form he kept coming back to throughout his life's work. The poem "La Guitarra" is by the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca, also from Andalusia (Granada) read by Anne Collins. In Andalusia, the guitar is used as background to the singer, although it too must sing. Guitar music composed and performed by Andrew Collins.
