  • Nov 11, 2023 to Nov 25, 2023
  • Location: Parksville
  • Description:
A key part of our Home for the Holidays promotion will be an amazing kick-off for the holidays on November 25.  The streets will be filled with carollers, music, strolling holiday mascots, hot chocolate/cider & popcorn stations and a super-fun family photo booth!
Sound like fun?  I think so too!  I can’t wait…. But…I need some help.
Calling all singers, musicians, people who want to let out their mascot personality…. And general helpers.
I know most of you will be hands-on working on that Saturday but maybe you know someone – your kids, your spouse, your mother, your uncle, the guy next door.  The more helpers I get, the better the event will be.
If you know someone that can give me a 2-hour shift on that Saturday I would forever grateful!
Please have them text me, call me at 604 657 5695 or drop by the office at 177 Weld Street.
Here’s to a wonderful Small Business Saturday kick-off to the holidays!

OPENING RECEPTION, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 1-3PM

     Artist’s Statement

The wood art I create comes from my deep love of wood and nature. They both have many textures, colours and aromas, and each of them are natural, beautiful elements in my everyday life.
My artwork is a creation from salvaged woods that inspire my creativity to design unique and intriguing artwork from abstract to representative art. My medium is the same wood that so many people chop up and turn it into ashes. Seeing the beauty in wood ‘offcuts’ makes me feel I am making a contribution in cleaning the air we all breath.
Nature is filled with wondrous landscapes, so I will continue to be inspired and turn salvaged wood into works of art.

  • QUILTING AND BEYOND NANOOSE BAY QUILTERS

  • Oct 31, 2023 to Nov 26, 2023
  • Location: McMillan Arts Centre
  • Description:

OPENING RECEPTION Saturday, November 4th, 1-3pm

Nanoose Quilters began in 2010 when seven keen women took a leap of faith that there would be enough quilters in Nanoose Bay to form a group: the initial 26 members has since grown to 50. We are all enthusiastic quilters who range from beginners to advanced. Our love of fabric and quilting is shared in a supportive community. Quilting journeys are shared with each other, creating friendships along the way. We meet once a month in Nanoose Bay where we have demos, projects, and sew days. Members always bring projects to show, and new notions and patterns are discussed. The charity arm of the group works on providing comfort and warmth through donating quilted items. We are an amazing and fun-loving group who support, encourage and inspire each other in our creativity and love of quilting.

Because of it’s colour, richness, flexibility and texture, oil paint is my medium of choice. When I paint, my intention is to compose an image with colour, emotion and a pleasant mood that invites the viewer to be a part of the work and want to be there.”

Margery was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with her Bachelor of Fines Arts degree and later earned her Education degree. She worked as a high school teacher for many years, while never losing her love to create and express herself through her art. • THIS MUST BE THE PLACE Christi YORK and Janine DUNS

  • Oct 16, 2023 to Oct 29, 2023
  • Location: McMillan Arts Centre 133 McMillan Street PO Box 1662 Parksville, BC, V9P 2H5
  • Description:

If we were to look for any silver linings associated with the pandemic, one of them might be the increased ease with which digital connections could be made. Christi and Janine first connected through Instagram, discovering similar themes in their respective works and, even though they both lived in the Cowichan Valley, their shared ideas evolved and flowed through highly anticipated bi-monthly “art chats” on FaceTime.

During these past four years both artists stayed close to home and found inspiration in their immediate surroundings, connecting strongly to the natural environment and yet aware of connections to the wider world. Both artists are highly process driven; subjects are explored through the experimental and spontaneous act of creating. Value is placed on leaving room for discovery in the process. Looking at the final works you’d perhaps never know the meandering pathways taken to get there.

    By John Patrick Stanley

    Directed by Jennifer Kelly

Winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award, Doubt, A Parable by John Patrick Stanley asks audiences to grapple with the discomfort of uncertainty. “What do you do when you’re not sure?” Set in the Bronx in 1964, amidst social chance, the fast-moving play centers around four dynamic characters balancing a thin line between truth and consequences.

When an unconscionable accusation is levelled against a priest, the play raises questions but answers none. “Doubt can be a bond as powerful and sustaining as certainty.”
