Note this workshop is being offered on Friday the 19th and again on Saturday the 20th so please indicate which session you prefer.

The local Arrowsmith Chapter of the Canadian Federation of Artists (FCA) is presenting their annual Spring Exhibition to be held at the McMillan Arts Centre located 133McMillan St. in central Parksville, BC. You will be able to enjoy the creative talent selected from the best of local artists and the show offers you the opportunity to enhance or begin a collection of original art.

You are invited to attend the reception where you can meet the artists at the Awards Presentation on Saturday April 6^th 1 -3 PM.

And…. you will be able to participate in the choosing of the coveted “People’s Choice Award”. Please vote for your favourite artwork. A prize package of art-cards from our member artists will be randomly drawn from participants.

The Arrowsmith FCA Chapter traditionally hosts two prestigious juried group shows per year. All the artwork in these shows, ranging in style from the abstract to the representational in various media such as watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, and mixed media

Painting Oceans, Rivers, Lakes, Ponds and Puddles with Oils

Unfolding the mysteries of painting a variety of water sources with oil paints.

This workshop will guide you through the secrets of painting water with focus on reflections, transparencies, light and colour, all while creating depth and shallows.

Open to all levels of experience but being familiar with oil paints will be an asset.

The Brant Wildlife Festival aims to connect community with the spectacular migratory return of Brant geese to raise awareness for the biological diversity within the region and highlight the importance of protecting critical habitat and minimizing disturbance to wildlife. The Brant Wildlife Festival takes place during a time where wildlife is extremely active, with Brant Geese preparing for their migration and herring spawning, many other species are attracted to the shores and waters. Beaches within the MABR and surrounding areas provide an abundant food source for the Brant geese in the midst of their migration.

The Brant Wildlife Festival brings together thousands of people each year to celebrate nature. The festival hosts a multitude of events in the Spring that connect people with nature, educate people of all ages on topics of conservation, and celebrate the incredible biodiversity our region has to offer. Join internationally celebrated “SoulFolk” singer-songwriter and choral composer Lea Morris, on her North American tour in the first of four of inspiring, participatory events on Vancouver Island, along with Oceanside community songleader Sylvia Humble. 

In a fun, accessible two-hour workshop, experience Lea’s harmonic and polyrhythmic multilayered songs, taught by ear and heart (no need to read sheet music). We’ll sing in celebration of the beautiful contrast of dark and light. All adult singers are welcome, regardless of singing experience. Participants have the option of performing a few songs with Lea in her concert!

The workshop is followed by a concert featuring Lea’s powerful vocals and dynamic guitar work, seamlessly blending gospel, jazz, country and R&B, in her unique versions of original, contemporary, and traditional songs.

Beloved Canadian Painters – A Series Presented by Terri Bowen B.Ed., M.A.

After attending these workshop(s), you will have a solid understanding of some of Canada’s historically most influential and provocative artists, particularly those who participated in the Group of Seven. You will first get a deep appreciation for their personalities and lifestyles. Then you will better understand the times during which they grew up and how they struggled to bring their artistic style to convey the power of Canadian landscapes and its people. Finally, you will paint in their style, using some of the techniques they used to record the harshness and beauty of our country.
