  • QUILTING AND BEYOND NANOOSE BAY QUILTERS

  • Oct 31, 2023 to Nov 26, 2023
  • Location: McMillan Arts Centre
  • Description:

OPENING RECEPTION Saturday, November 4th, 1-3pm

Nanoose Quilters began in 2010 when seven keen women took a leap of faith that there would be enough quilters in Nanoose Bay to form a group: the initial 26 members has since grown to 50. We are all enthusiastic quilters who range from beginners to advanced. Our love of fabric and quilting is shared in a supportive community. Quilting journeys are shared with each other, creating friendships along the way. We meet once a month in Nanoose Bay where we have demos, projects, and sew days. Members always bring projects to show, and new notions and patterns are discussed. The charity arm of the group works on providing comfort and warmth through donating quilted items. We are an amazing and fun-loving group who support, encourage and inspire each other in our creativity and love of quilting.

     Artist’s Statement

The wood art I create comes from my deep love of wood and nature. They both have many textures, colours and aromas, and each of them are natural, beautiful elements in my everyday life.
My artwork is a creation from salvaged woods that inspire my creativity to design unique and intriguing artwork from abstract to representative art. My medium is the same wood that so many people chop up and turn it into ashes. Seeing the beauty in wood ‘offcuts’ makes me feel I am making a contribution in cleaning the air we all breath.
Nature is filled with wondrous landscapes, so I will continue to be inspired and turn salvaged wood into works of art.
