  The OCAC Galleries
The OCAC exhibition spaces are located in the Arts Council building at 133 McMillan Street in downtown Parksville. They are spaces mandated for the promotion of all community art activities, with a focus on the visual and installation arts, emphasizing local and emerging artists. Shows change monthly with much of the work for sale.

CALL FOR ENTRIES

Small in Nature (deadline June 1, 2010)

In August 2010, the Oceanside Community Arts Council on Vancouver Island on Canada's west coast will be presenting its 13th annual show of miniature art, entitled Small in Nature. The juried show will run from August 16 - September 4, 2010.

Local and international artists working in two and three-dimensional works are invited to take part. Admissible Categories: painting, sculpture, fibre, ceramics and original prints etc. (Jewellery, photography and digital art will not be accepted in this show.)

We Are Assembled (deadline March 31, 2010)

This will be a juried group exhibition held at the Oceanside Gallery, Parksville, Vancouver Island BC, Canada, for the month of October 2010. All media are acceptable, with the exception of photography.

For jury consideration please submit the following materials:
1) images of work proposed for the exhibition, and/or 6 images of previous work indicating your approach to the subject matter. Images can be in slide form, video if applicable, or on a cd (jpegs only, up to 1 MB in size).
2) an artist's statement explaining your aesthetic response to the topic
3) a current exhibition history

4) a SASE if you wish your submission materials returned. No materials will be returned unless a SASE is included.

By mail: Submit a completed application with a minimum of 5 good quality photos or color lasers. Include an SASE if you wish the submission material returned.

Selection Process
Submissions will be collated and presented to the gallery committee for decision in March 2010; successful applicants will be informed by email.

GALLERY DESCRIPTIONS

Oceanside Gallery  •   Floor Plan (PDF)
Emphasizing the work of contemporary Canadian artists in any medium, the Oceanside Gallery hosts up to 12 exhibitions each year. The gallery space is located within the Arts Council building and incorporates approximately 550 sq. ft of floor space with 3 walls of approximately 192 ft. of display space. Large windows on the fourth wall let in natural light.

Joe Cunningham Ford Gallery  •   Floor Plan (PDF)
Recently renamed the Joe Cunningham Ford Gallery becuase of a generous donation which allowed the OCAC to refurbish the space, this gallery features the works of local and regional artists and artisans, the Arrowsmith Artist Group host 5 exhibitions each year in the Joe Cunningham Ford Gallery. In addition to the displays of artists' works, this multipurpose room is utilized for intimate recitals, local performing group rehearsals, meeting space, and a variety of other uses. Large windows let in natural light.

Complete with a grand piano, this room is popular as a rental space. For rental information please contact the OCAC office on 250 248 8185.

Nemeth Gallery  •   Floor Plan (PDF)
This intimate space is located in the foyer of the Arts Council Building. Named in memory of a local photographer and teacher, the Nemeth Gallery shows almost strictly photography.


Due to re-open in September of 2009, the First Step Gallery is a special place for children's art. In conjunction with the school system this gallery displays "Leonardos in the making". We are also happy to accommodate children's art work from any group.
