2010 OCAC PROGRAMMING

Arts Speaker Series: A new seminar/question series, starting in the autumn of 2010. Join the OCAC in welcoming guest speakers to share in-depth knowledge about a variety of arts-based topics such as aboriginal art, professional development and more.

Arts Speaker Series takes place the first Thursday of each month, 7:00-8:30pm, from September to March. Admission $10. Schedule posted soon

Arts for Youth: Research shows that an early beginning in arts education can have a real impact on a childs' academic and social development beyond just the developing the creative thinking process. Youth arts education is linked to cognitive skills, problem solving, fine motor and social skills, language, sense of time and space, risk taking and more.

The OCAC accepts applications from all parents living or visiting the District 69 area. Each OCAC youth course has a minimum of one adult on site per 8 children. The Arts Council looks within the Oceanside area to recruit young adults as assistants when registrations exceed 8 children.

Body+Mind+Soul+: The OCAC is proud to present the innagural Oceanside Body+Mind+Soul+ - A celebration of the human form. Activities will include a workshops, art exhibits, music, on-site messages.

Body+Mind+Soul+ Reception takes place on Thursday August 5, the art exhibit runs from August 3 - 14


Speak-Easy Casino Night: The OCAC Casino night started its beginning as an annual fundraiser, due to popular demand the OCAC now hosts these twice a year.

Join the OCAC as we turn our building into a casino/bar for an evening. Great door prizes, music and fun!

Drop-in art classes: Share techniques with others and use the OCAC studio space in these self-directed art drop-in sessions, open to everyone.

11:00am-3:00pm Every Wednesday February - June and September - December. Admission $4

Festival of Art: One of the OCAC's longest running events, the Festival of Arts is the Oceansides' premier juried art show. Come check out art from across Vancouver Island, watch artist demonstrations and vote on your favorite work for the peoples' choice award.

Festival of Art 2010 runes from July 1 - 11. Schedule posted soon

OCAC Fundraiser:Friday September 17 at 7:00pm, 2010 at Sunrise Ridge Resort

Recital Series: The OCAC recital series welcomes performing artists of various disciplines in recital style performances.

The Rectial Series 2010 runs on the third Sunday of every month, February to May from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Schedule posted soon

Small in Nature: The popular tourist attraction, Small in Nature is Vancouver Island's largest miniature art exhibition. Entries from all over the world find their way to the OCAC for guests to admire.

Small in Nature 2010 runs from August 16 - 31.

Spook (Halloween): Parksville's family Halloween event held at the OCAC will include a costume parade (awards for prizes); a pumpkin carving contest and goodies for the children.

The Arts Council classroom is available as a weekly drop-in artists' studio. A regular opportunity for artists to get together and work, and to exhange information and suggestions.
Drop-in fees: $2 OCAC members, $5 non-members.
