OCEANSIDE COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL | ||
|
A Brief History Originally titled District 69 Community Arts Council, after the school district in which it was located, the name was changed to Oceanside in 1999. Since the beginning we have been headquartered in the upper level of the historic Parksville Superior School, commonly referred to as the "Old McMillan School", located on the corner of McMillan & Hirst Street in Parksville, BC Canada. Parksville Superior School circa 1918 is shown below (click on to load larger image). Built in 1913-1914, it was used as a school to teach local Oceanside students until the mid 1970's. The education process continues, with a focus on the arts, into the new millennium. Through the activities of our volunteers, members and elected board of Directors we encourage and support Arts and Culture as part of the daily lives of all citizens of the Oceanside area. Donations The OCAC is a registered non-profit charity as such we operate solely on donations, room rental fees, memberships fees, sales and grants. The OCAC is working to become a Council that is self-sustainable and operates a budget created through revenues, sponsorship and partnership. We aim to utilize grants to augment our project and programming rather than relying on them for operations. In order for us to become autonomous we need support; the word 'support' was chosen because it is very adaptable; it doesn't matter whether an organisation can provide time, resources, in-kind donations or monetary sponsorship, support is what is going to give the Arts Council the strength it needs to become the arts hub of Oceanside. The OCAC has created a tiered sponsorship table that shows what we can do to maximise any contribution made to the Arts Council, such as providing in-kind tax reciepts. The OCAC proudly accepts contributions, donations and sponsorships; this income is re-invested directly back into the Council to maintain our building and grow our programming and on other arts and culture initiatives within the community.
