The 12th Annual Assemblage show was a continuation of the jurying policy the OCAC began for this show in 2007. Due to increasingly overwhelming submissions we were obliged to limit the number of participants through a combined invitation/jurying process. The results have been a more manageable show for the OCAC curatorial committee and a stronger, less chaotic show for the public. For 2008, We Are Assembled featured a wide range of work from 25 B.C. artists, both well-established and emerging. Please note: In keeping with the spirit of obsolescence, all artwork dimensions are in inches.

When the OCAC moved from an open call to a jurying process in 2007, the curatorial committee was forced to sacrifice the inclusion of collage due to space restrictions -- only one of 3 galleries was available -- at the time. Starting this year all 3 galleries were made available, and collage returned in abundance, even with the limitations of invitation and jurying. Errata is the OCAC's first annual all-collage show, and will be a permanent accompaniment to We Are Assembled.

This selection of 16 collages was created by a collaborative process involving a number of different artists and mediums. The artists are Jed Irwin, Evy Wessel, Bill Friesen, Jim Muir, Marci Katz, Wayne Cameron, Ed Varney, Anita Friesen, and Paula Maloney. The mediums include acrylic and watercolour on paper, ink, pencil, preprinted material, and other graphic materials.
Each collage was begun, worked on, added to, or drawn on, and then passed on to another artist to continue until someone felt that it was done. This process was carried on in about 5 different sessions, each with different artists attending, and about 120 works were created which everyone agreed stood on their own. Along the way, some pictures were discarded or were put back into the pile to continue to be worked on. Thus each work contains an unplanned eclectic mix of images, narrative, and techniques which interplay and weave together into an unexpected visual statement.
